PRODUCT SENSE & EXECUTION
Product Sense
Product Sense interviews are a key component of the Product Management Interview Coaching process. They are designed to evaluate how PMs take a hard, ambiguous problem and build a great product for the customers.
Candidates are expected to ask clarifying questions, make intelligent assumptions, identify the target user(s), come up with a solution and key features, design wireframes and flows and identify tradeoffs. All while walking through your thought process and reasoning. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
What differentiates the best candidates from the rest of the pack is the ability to deal with ambiguity, impose structure where there is none and above all, thinking big. Many folks will come up with incrementalistic features that are passable, but struggle with identifying big ideas to solve user pain points.
Execution Interviews
Execution interviews assess a candidate’s chops in analyzing data, setting goals, identifying metrics and making tradeoffs. They measure a candidate’s analytical rigor and ability to problem-solve. Often these mirror real life situations that the interviewer might have encountered.
Behavioral Interviews, Leadership & Drive
These interviews assess a PM’s ability to work collaboratively with a diverse, cross functional team, display empathy, remove obstacles and resolve conflicts and drive alignment. These interviews not only evaluate the qualities that make you successful as a PM but are also designed to learn how you handle failure and learn from it.
